First Stop Literary Fame, ‘Next Stop Hollywood’
New Book Opens Submissions for the Next Big Screen Hit
Coming to a theater near you, Next Stop Hollywood: Short Stories Bound for the Screen (St. Martin’s Press, June 12, 2007) is an anthology like no other. Fifteen previously unpublished short stories were selected (out of over 600 worldwide entries) by close to 75 readers and an advisory panel of Hollywood “insiders”. The question they answered: Would this story make a terrific film or TV project?—the winning stories and their pending film success will put their answers to the test.
In an effort to bring more short stories to the big and small screens, Next Stop Hollywood executive producers, Steve Cohen and Jonathan Davis are opening the 2007 submission period with a call for original short stories to be compiled in the 2008 edition of the now annual anthology. Submissions will be judged by an editorial board of authors, screenwriters, directors, and producers in search of hidden gems and overlooked page-turners with definite film or television adaptation potential.
Cohen and Davis will use Next Stop Hollywood and their relationship with St. Martin ’s Press to continue the tradition of short story adaptation successes like The Devil Wears Prada, Brokeback Mountain, A Time to Kill and Jurassic Park.
“The secret to great motion pictures has always been great stories,” says Cohen. “With Hollywood constantly scrambling for fresh ideas, it’s nice to know that the art of the short story is not forgotten.”
