A Tribute to St. Clair Bourne
Museum of the Moving Image
35th Avenue at 36th Street
Queens New York 11106
It’s been nearly two months since documentarian St. Clair Bourne’s unexpected death, and his legacy’s ripe for assessment. Startlingly prolific, Bourne produced or directed more than 40 films in a 36-year career, chronicling different elements of the African-American experience, like a sort of August Wilson of the independent cinema. This tribute’s guest panel will focus more on Bourne’s legacy of journalism and social activism than his film work per se; the clips from his films, including Making “Do the Right Thing”, should have you hankering for an actual retrospective.
